My first guess is that you will need to recompile the kernel.
What is the output of
    ls /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/kernel/net/ipv4/netfilter/ip_tables.o
?

Here it is 
/tmp$ ls /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/kernel/net/ipv4/netfilter/ip_tables.o
/lib/modules/2.4.18-podp5v83.1/kernel/net/ipv4/netfilter/ip_tables.o
/tmp$
