AFAIK, gabber uses the Jabber protocol to talk to a Jabber server.  Each
Jabber server can run various gateways that let you communicate with
no-Jabber IM networks; e.g. MSN, ICQ, AIM.  Support for these other
networks varies from Jabber-server to Jabber-server; I've tried a few
(tipic.com, myjabber.net, a couple of others I can't think of right
now), but none of them seem to support ICQ all that well (lots of
messages disappearing, both to and from me).
