Gnome2 wm trials....

I am testing Gnome2 on one of our debian/sid machines here and have run into a
few glitches.

1] sawfish or metacity don't start by default, just twm.
2] gnome-panel tries to start, then exits, I presume because of twm?
3] click to focus doesn't work, or works wierdly
4] alt-tab doesn't do anything..

I tried a couple of things to get metacity up and running:

     changed bin/twm to twm.old and made a soft link: twm -> metacity which
worked, except the gnome-panel would not start...

     reversed the above hack. And found /etc/alternatives/x-window-manager and
made it a link to metacity rather then twm. Which wiçorked, metacity starts, but
the gnome-panel still doesn't.

I have a terminal window come up, so I can type gnome-panel & and the panels pop
up, but it's still a hack. What am I missing?

3] click to focus doesn't work, or works wierdly

I can only get it to sort of work by clicking on the Title-bar. while with gnome
1.4 I can click anywere in the window to get it to come to the front.

4] alt-tab doesn't do anything..
