By what gauge? It does use more memory than vi (8-10MB VSZ on my
system, depending on whether you use an X window or not). Starting a
Mozilla and opening a Composer window is around a 40MB VSZ on my
system.
These days, the amount of memory Emacs takes is not a problem on most
systems, and you only need one Emacs process for as many files as you
want to edit.
