I'm using XFree86 4.2.0 on sid and I get the exact same thing, does your
system seem to slow down alot before hand? I changed the kernel from
2.4.13 to 2.4.18 and the slowdown problem isn't there now (go figure) but
it will still freeze on a ctrl-alt-backspace, from which nothing but a
reboot will recover it, occurs about every 5 days or so. The other
behaviour I'm seeing is logging out of gnome, the same freeze happens but
not all the time {:P
