What type of tape drives were you using?

I hope that's why you check your DVDs on other drives periodically.
Otherwise you didn't learn the right lesson.
I agree with Karsten that tape is preferable. The major argument
favoring cdrw is that for a home user redundant drive hardware is
more available. And that is a major argument.
