wireless extensions and new pcmcia src package?

I just upgraded my kernel, and built a new pcmcia-modules package for
it, and now wireless extensions (for things like iwconfig and the like)
don't seem to be found!

the card works fine in a sort of "default" way, i.e. I can get an ip,
but I can't do anything that would require me changing an essid,
checking connections status or the like.

has anyone else seen this?
