It's the same thing for reiserfs; reiserfsck --check has to be done on an
unmounted filesystem.

I had problems on reiserfs several times; the disk was OK (no
bad-sector), but the filesystems got corrupted. Fortunately, it was /usr
and, on another time, /var which resided in different partitions (other
than where / was). The filesystems went all right after a reiserfsck
--rebuild-tree.

Yes, ideally filesystem checks could be done on mounted filesystems; the
checking program is just _reading_ anyway, why should the filesystems get
unmounted?
