its more dependent on the motherboard ( onboard ide controller chips )

- same disk will under-perform by 1/2 or more if a slow/bad ide driver on
  the "bad" mb
	- all else staying the same/unchanged

	- don't get cheap mb... :-)


- other variables like cpu/memory ( cas timing )
        - adding more memory didnt make the system compile any faster
        - adding faster cpu didnt make the system compile any faster

        ( compile 2.4.19 was the test --- 5-6 minutes on average 
        ( for p4-1.6 or p4-2.0 w/ 512MB - pc133 and/or
	( amd-1700+ w/ 512MB PC-2100 ddr  -- keeps up with a p4 system
