A few. You are already in the audio group. Can you play any sounds
(like from the Gnome control panel, configure sounds and use the
"test" option for the various sounds Gnome makes when you click your
mouse, open windows etc.)?
Second, if you are playing a regular CD, XMMS does not pipe the sound
via /dev/dsp. The audio cable from the CD-ROM drive needs to be
hookeup up correctly to your sound card.
Third, be sure that you have configured XMMS to use the esd plugin. I
have not installed woody recently with Gnome (I tracked woody while it
was testing) but when I installed XMMS I had to do this before it did
anything reasonable.
