Since noone else mentions it, I'll do.

Try (from your shell):

stty erase C-V Backspace

where 
    C-V       : Press Control V
    Backspace : Hit your Backspace key


If that does not help, you can probably get around
with using C-H instead of Backspace until you fixed it.
