Could you elaborate a little on what you mean by "the CD ROM is not
recognized"?
Have you read http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/i386/install yet?
In particular, do read chapter 4 carefully, and then perhaps you might
be able to ask a more specific question.
Debian is probably the most difficult Linux distribution to install
for a newbie, so please bear with the installation procedure if you
want to use it. Also, be aware that Debian values stability more than
having the latest, greatest, point and click software. As a result it
may not always be the best choice for some one new to UNIX like
systems.
