Generally, read /usr/doc/logcheck
The rules in /etc/logcheck/ define expressions to enable logcheck to
interpret stuff it finds in the logs. E.g.,
kernel: Oversized packet received from
means that if logcheck finds such an expression in the kernel logs, it
warns you about a possible cracking attempt. What logcheck actually does
is configurable, e.g., it can send you a mail.
