What is ide-scsi for?

Some weeks ago, I posted that ide-scsi was being loaded in my system when I
didn't want it. No-one at the time was able to help me find out how it got
loaded - since all the usual suspects (/etc/modules /etc/modules.conf
/etc/lilo.conf and so on) did not show any reference to it.
After a big push this weekend, I have discovered what caused it to get loaded.
I had installed the debian "discover" package. This causes the ide-scsi to
get loaded during startup.
The question then comes to mind - did it do so incorrectly or not?
I have a scsi based CD writer and an ide based DVD ROM drive. My
understanding is that ide-scsi is only there because programs like cdrecord
need to access the device like a scsi unit in order to work correctly. Since
my ide based DVD cannot be used to write anything, ide-scsi seems redundant.
Its worse than that. mplayer fails to work on playing my dvds when ide-scsi
is loaded.
I am wondering if I should file a bug report against the discover package or
not?
