Usually, when you see a virus scanner running on Linux, it's just scanning for Windows viruses; i.e. it's a mailserver that scans incoming attachments before they get to the lusers. Unices aren't as susceptible to virus outbreaks because of their multiuser nature, filesystem-level access control, and (mostly) the smaller number of lusers. You do mention that you plan for this machine to act as a mailserver, so you might look into a scanner then that will help protect your Windows machines. There are other steps you should take to secure your mailserver/gateway machine, but a virus scanner isn't necessarily one of them. good times, Vineet -- http://www.doorstop.net/ -- http://www.aclu.org/ It's all about Freedom.
