virus gives an error saying there is a virus. is there any way of working around this problem?

The trend chip incorrectly thinks lilo is a virus.
Steps you should do:

1) Email your mainboard manufacturer to tell them their bios incorrectly calls lilo a virus. It is likely can give you a firmware upgrade that will avoid the warning. It is quite likely that they have this if it is a fairly new mainboard, I haven't seen a mainboard calling lilo a virus for some years. This is the best option since it a) makes the manufacturer aware there is a problem, and b) having a virus checker is slightly useful so it is better not to disable it.

2) If you can't get a firmware upgrade, or you want the problem fixed sooner, then press <DEL> on startup to enter the bios. Some BIOSes use a different key, such as F10 or Esc, either way it should tell you which key to press. Somewhere under the bios's settings, perhaps in advanced options, will be a trend virus checker option, turn this off.

Hope this helps,
