Missing charsets in String to Font
Hi
I upgraded my unstable system last night and ran into a problem with
running xemacs, xterm and xfontsel (only these apps so far) on X Window.
See the error messages below the line.
I'm running xemacs21-mule 21.4.8-2 and xterm 4.1.0-17.
xemacs from the console or "xemacs -nw" both start up OK.
I have xfonts-75dpi and xfonts-100dpi installed.
The only thing to do with fonts in last night's upgrade was
msttcorefonts. I've since removed that package but it hasn't helped.
These xemacs21-mule bugs: #133607 and #160973, appear to relate to my
problem. I tried the solution suggested in the first one, intalling
xfonts-100dpi-transcoded, but that didn't work.
Has anyone else this problem?
Jonathan

Starting xemacs from an xterm produces:
Warning: Missing charsets in String to FontSet conversion
Warning: Unable to load any usable fontset
Fatal error (11).
[snip]
Lisp backtrace follows:
# bind (frame-being-created)
make-frame(nil #<x-device on ":0.0" 0x25ce>)
frame-initialize()
# bind (debugger debug-on-error command-line-args-left)
command-line()
# (condition-case ... . ((t (byte-code " Â?" ... 1))))
# bind (error-data)
normal-top-level()
# (condition-case ... . error)
# (catch top-level ...)
Starting an xterm and then (as I often do) C-right-click (to change the
size of the font) produces:
Warning: Missing charsets in String to FontSet conversion
Warning: Unable to load any usable fontset
Warning: Unable to load any usable ISO8859-1 font
