minicom: cannot open /dev/ttyS0: Permission denied
I wanted to find a replacement for Windows Hyperterminal, so have tried Seyon
and Minicom. I could not get anywhere with Seyon, and found the
documentation very difficult.
Minicom, on the other hand, was easy to configure, and as root I am able to
dial out and connect (with my local public library to access their "card
catalog"). But when I try it as "me" (not root) I get the error message:
minicom: cannot open /dev/ttyS0: Permission denied
According to the Minicom man page I need to be in the "dialout" group. I am
already in this group and am able to use "pon" to connect to my ISP. Does
anyone know what else I need to do to use Minicom without being in root?
Thanks,
Peter Christensen
