Greetings Matthew:
Several questions: how do you start vncserver? Is this system behind a
firewall or on the same LAN? What do you have in your .xsession file in the
home directory where vncserver was started?
'man vncserver' gives quick details to start, kill, and clean session logs.
If you are behind a firewall, you will likely need to provide a route for
vncviewer to get through. If you are on a LAN, this shouldn't be an issue.
Make sure you add a GUI that vncserver can use like blackbox or IceWM. Last
time I tried to use kde it failed if I had kde running on the same system.
If you are new to vnc on Linux, know that you will not see *your* desktop
taken over by the viewer like on M$ Windows. Vncserver will actually begin a
new instance of x with whatever GUI you choose and then serve it via the net.
