I got some problems along the same line.It isn't as bad because I only use konqueror with windowmaker.
But that is crashing a lot (works max for 4 hrs. and then it starts flickering and crashing completely in certain directories).
It is always limited to one account,too.
This is the second install I with these problems.Other file managers work fine (use rox-filer now for a couple of days w/o a glitch.
KDE works also fine with gentoo on the same machine (but thats KDE3).
Basically I got debian on for a stable environment and gentoo for playing around and breaking things.
Seems like I might have to rethink this ;-0
