hde: lost interrupt + clicking sound = harddisk failing?

Hi everyone,

Recently experience some problems with my harddisk.
When I have my linux up and running, sometimes the
harddisk spinning with clicking sound. After a while,
the message hde: lost interrupt just keep popping up.
My question is is my harddisk dying? I am using
2.4.18 kernel with ASUS P3V4X (VIA chipset) and using
promise ATA100 only.

I also have another question, this motherboard (or
this system combination) already gave me a lot of
troubles. I am wondering why. It seems doing ok with
windows (with some random crash of course). Some
driver problems with VIA? Unstable IDE subsystem?
Any thought? thanx

So this lead to me which motherboard should I buy
or should I stay away. ASUS with Intel chipset
(instead of VIA)? Pls help

Edwin Lau
