Firstly, it would differentiate the name from some other commands (there is a 
command test which compares file types), which someone else indicated might 
cause a problem.  In addition, some GUI's might be able to associate the MIME 
type with a terminal program.

In addition, are you sure you made the file executable?  Do the following and 
try again:

chmod +x test
