Cross-compiling kernel

Hi,

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to build a cross-compiler on woody
so that kernels suitable for other architectures can be built?

I have tried a couple of different approaches or three, and they all
failed abysmally; any suggestions on how to get started the right way on
cross-compiling?
