alsa prob, via686

Does anyone have alsa (0.9.0-rc1) working with a
via686? I had alsa 0.9beta10 working fine, but when I
compiled the newer alsa modules with the new 2.4.19
kernel, I can't get it working.

I noticed that the sound card identification changed
from "via686a" to "via686" -- I had to change the
alsa-source.conf to get it to compile. But then,
etc/modules.conf and all the related files
(/etc/alsa/modutils/0.9) needed to be changed. So,
after confirming the initial setup didn't work, I
changed all the references from "snd-card-via686a" to
"snd-via686", since that is the name of the module in
/lib/modules/2.4.19-ac4/alsa and in the alsa
documentation. And it still doesn't work. I can insmod
the sound modules, but when I try to modprobe, I get
a can't locate module error. And, obviously, nothing
loads autmoatically. Any help appreciated.
