Stupid.
Yesterday after installing on my shiny new server, I was appalled to see
Trinoo, 31173 and other 'cracker' ports open. How on earth had I lost
control of the box so fast?
Rather than format and reinstall, I put an entry in /etc/hosts.deny
basically locking out everything except port 22, 25 and 80. Then googled
for the answer.
Of course the problem was the new version of Portsentry 'spoofing' the
cracked ports.
And my Squirrelmail problem was forgetting to remove the exclusions from
/etc/hosts.deny
