qpopper configuring
I'm trying to get qpopper running, and am having trouble with the
security settings. I first tried to follow the instructions in the
manual for setting up APOP. I made a file etc/pop.auth and then as root
ran popauth - init. This changed the ownerof /etc/pop.auth to mail.
I was unable to connect to the machine, because it said I needed
stronger authentication such as APOP to connect to this server. I had
the option 'set clear-text-password = never' set in the configuration
file. I thought this would allow me to use APOP, but it didn't work. I
then thought that I might not be listed as a user in the APOP database,
so I tried to run 'popauth -user' as root, but was told that it was
unable to open /etc/pop.auth permission denied. I then tried typing
popauth as me, not root, but got the same thing.
I then looked into using openssl, but I don't understand how to register
a certificate (do I need to pay for this?).
Any suggestions as to how to get qpopper running securely would be
appreciated. I'm not sure I set the correct option in the configuration
file, and any help on what to set will also be appreciated. Thanks,
Ric
