Have you tried the obvious? Namely, changing your video out driver as the error message states that xv isn't working for you? Since xv isn't working, try x11, dga, sdl, fbdev, etc. To get a full list of supported video output drivers on your particular install, try mplayer -vo help. This would probably be a good place to start. :) -Alex
