Well, there's djbdns - but it's not complete and I have serious issues with the licencing or lack thereof.

Specifically it doesn't support (and never will) IXFR (incremental zone transfers) and DNSSEC (secure DNS).

On a technical level, djbdns probably does what you want (above missing features notwithstanding).

Personally, I use BIND9 and find it adequate.
