dist-upgrade: perl can't modify goto in lvalue

G'Day,

Great news that woody is stable, such great news I though upgrading my
server would be called for. HOWEVER after I had down loaded the packages
required to upgrade the system I encountered the following:

-- 8<--- 8<--- Screen Output -- 8<--- 8<---
root@aztec:~# apt-get -u dist-upgrade
Reading Package Lists...
Building Dependency Tree...
The following NEW packages will be installed:
-- 8<--- 8<---
   Specific Packages Removed

The following packages will be upgraded
  ntpdate nvi oidentd original-awk perl-5.005 perl-5.005-base php3-dev php4

   Specific Packages Removed
-- 8<--- 8<---
266 packages upgraded, 20 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
1 packages not fully installed or removed.
Need to get 0B/96.9MB of archives. After unpacking 38.4MB will be used.
Do you want to continue? [Y/n] debconf: Perl may be unconfigured (Can't modify goto in lvalue subroutine return at /usr/share/perl5/Debconf/Base.pm line 24, near "}"

) -- aborting

root@aztec:~#
-- 8<--- 8<--- End of output -- 8<--- 8<---

How can I fix this so that I can continue the upgrade?
This is the message that is now produced every time I run apt-get -u
dist-upgrade, but it resembles the one I originally received.

Thanks in advance,
