.forward : for a mail account

I have a mail account kl@xyz.com (for a site that I host on my web
server) , that is assosiated with a user account kl .
I have heard that if you create a .forward file in his home directory
with the desination mail address , the mails
he gets in kl@xyz.com gets forwarded to that address.

But somehow my trial and error - ceremony does not yield any result
here. What should the .forward look like ,
if say , he wants his mails on my web server (from kl@xyz.com) to be
forwarded to kl@yahoo.com ?
