The non-free version of tripwire that was in potato is old and not
really very useful.  The new version is a complete rewrite, and I can
imagine how it might have been difficult to get it working in time.
Although there *was* quite a bit of time between potato & woody.  8^)

You can get tripwire from www.tripwire.org.  I have done that, and it
works nicely.  Since it's not a Debian package, it's not really
integrated with the Debian way of doing things, but it can be made very
useful with a little bit of time.
