X in Woody - what gives
System
------
Asus A7V / 750Mhz Athlon / 512MB
Matrox Millenium G200 SD
Problem
-------
The system is working under Gentoo, had been working fine under SUSe and
Mandrake before I blew them away. I recently downloaded all 8 Woody CDs
from a mirror in Norway.
I am having the worst time with X (4.x). startx just would not work
claiming that mga_ha1 was missing. I ran and reran xf86cfg and xf86config a
couple of times. (can never remember configurator is for which version of X)
a couple of times. No luck.
In frustration I just appended '.old' to both XF86Config and XFConfig-4.
When I entered startx up came GDM. I rebooted the system and got to the gdm
login screen.
Question
--------
What is going on? Other than less colors (I estimate 256), the resolution
appears to be 1024x768 which is just right for my 15" LCD panel.
Secondarily how do I capture the configuration and translate that into an X
config file?
Any thought greatly appreciated.
