Try this:
apt-get install dpkg
if it tells you it's already installed try:
apt-get install dpkg --reinstall
because "update-rc.d" comes with the dpkg package.
Then try again what you've already tried.

hello,
i'm new to linux and have some problems after updating!
my update has produced unmet dependencies in the python package.
deinstall does not work, install does not work; everthing else
can not be installed either:-(
apt-get -f install does not work as well:-(
may someone help me!?
