Wine compile error

I am trying to install Wine but when it compiles it return an error message: 
     /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lperl 
     collect2: ld returned 1 exit status 
     make[2]: *** [winetest.exe.so] Error 1 
     make[2]: Leaving directory '/home/blueplazma/wine-20020605/programs/winetest' 
     make[1]: *** [winetest] Error 2 
     make[1]: Leaving directory '/home/blueplazma/wine-20020605/programs' 
     make: *** [programs] Error 2 

Any ideas about how to fix that?  If you want the entire output of the compiler then just email me and I can send it to you.
