try using a 2.4.18 kernel w/ raid0/1 built into the kernel
instead of modules..

and/or is that initrd referenced in your lilo.conf for "root" partition
in the lilo.conf stanza 
	...
	root=/dev/md0
	initrd=that_one_u_used_from_rescue_partition.gz
