SV: newbie: Set and read time



Hi Peter,
saw you've got lots of
'man date'

here come more...

/etc/timezone /// GMT on my box
# date /// shows you date + time + timezone
# export TZ=PST /// change timezone
# tzconfig (y) /// To set the time zone
# date --set 2001-10-24 /// setting date
# date --set 21:45:0 /// setting time
# time sleep 60 /// it's a stopwatch :-)

temporarily set the time:
# date --set='-2 hours'
Edit /etc/default/rcS and set UTC=no.
then run /etc/init.d/ntpdate
Then, set your clock to the correct time.
# date --set='20:39'
