While mutt can do some simple address book stuff itself (use 'a' to
create an alias), it has a general "external query" feature to allow you
to hook into other programs for address book management. The lbdb
package has a good suite of tools for this - it can even search pine's
address book.

That said, it's been a while since I used it. I must set it up again.
