 Will the originator of Tux in ASCII (above) please stand?
 
 I'd like to copy the image now & then in personal mail, preferably with
 proper credit.

 As copyright under the Act of 1976 is automatic, a proper credit line
 might read 
 Copyright (c) <year> <artist's name>.

 That's if the copyright owner will give permission.

 How nice if it can be GPL'ed.
