install latest debian 2.4.16 kernelimage has devfs activated, why?
# grep -i devfs /boot/config-2.4.17-686
CONFIG_DEVFS_FS=y
# CONFIG_DEVFS_MOUNT is not set
# CONFIG_DEVFS_DEBUG is not set
Would it not be better to have CONFIG_DEVFS_FS=n
I am currently reading
/usr/src/kernel-source-2.4.17/Documentation/filesystems/devfs/README
to see what advantages there are if any.
Currently I don't have /dev/ide0 since I was running 2.2 previously.
Anyone know how to create devfs?
I still have /dev/hd? in my fstab
and boot up has been UNEFFECTED however I am getting the following
message in dmesg:

cramfs: wrong magic
What is cramfs?
Just curious to hear other people's opinions on this matter, i.e.
don't use devfs. It seems to me the debian kernel should have
CONFIG_DEVFS_FS=n.
