Exim Proble with AUTH PLAIN on Woody
Hi:
I am using exim 3.33-1.1 (from woody), and WU Imap. What I am trying to do
is having outside users send email through my server. Of course, only
authenticated users can do this.
According to the exim.conf file in /etc/exim/exim.conf, I should create a
file in the /etc/exim directory that should be in the following format:
username:crypted_password
Now, I tried this and it doesn't work for my Netscape or Mozilla users.
the tcpdump shows the users connecting to port 25 on the mail server with the
following
AUTH PLAIN blah blah blah
the blah blah part is basically \0username\0password encoded in BASE64.
I tried using pam but, I have MD5 passwords and the package from the sources
that is for pam and md45 passwords is not working for me.
The box is a woody machine updated (apt-get dist-upgrade) as of 01/26/2002 at
about 2321 Pacific Time US.
If I don't get this authentication working by 1/31/2002 the company is going
to slap an Exchange server as their SMTP server so, I CANNOT LOOSE THIS ONE
or any chance I have now of keeping Linux running on this company will DIE.
In case some of you are wondering why am I using woody instead of Potato for
a production machine? The same thing happens on Potato so, I upgraded and,
anyway Woody is pretty much good for what I want.
Is there anybody out there that can help me with this?
I will install/modify/hack/do pretty much anything at this point to get this
installed and working as soon as possible so, any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
