error running texdoc

I have tetex-doc installed, but when i try to run texdoc i get:


[davep@dp:~]$ texdoc geometry
/usr/bin/texdoc: eval: line 1: syntax error near unexpected token `&'

any idea what is wrong / how to fix it?
