Re: starting point for kernel compile

Hey David,

I compiled 2.4.16 on my debian machine a few weeks ago. The
documentation that comes with the sources is very good and explains
all the steps. Keep in mind that for the 2.4.17 kernel to work you
need to upgrade a lot of tools (modutils, bin-utils etc) all this is
listed in the install document. The install has menu, X and standard
config methods so it should be no problem for you to get the options
you need. Some software has problem on 2.4.x kernels! (I had to use
ALSA0.9.0B10 and still could not get it to work!)

oh and you should get your sources at kernel.org

good luck!

Ben
