FW: X-windows in startup

after booting up press <ctrl><alt> F1 to go into a console terminal.

logon as root.

cd /etc/rc2.d

rm S??xdm # or just move it, if you dont want to delete it....

shutdown -r now

worked for me this morning, anyway.

Subject: X-windows in startup

I had unsuccessfully configured X, set it aside for a day. Rebooted the
machine, only to have X start automatically. Problem is, X isn't working
beyond letting me enter username/password.

C-ALT-D only gets me back to the initial GUI login! IS there a way to escape
out of this during the boot process?
