Any other keyboard sequence for event handling ?

Most of the Linuxes , including Debian , use the Ctrl-Alt-Del
for shutdown -or- reboot (depending on the inittab) ,
and also provide :
     kb::kbrequest:/etc/init.d/gpm restart  #This /etc/init.d/gpm
  restart thing is my modification
stuff , which uses the Alt-<Up-Arrow> combination
to execute the choicest of commands.
My question is :
-) What if you wish to have a new key-combination , say Alt-Shift-F12
   for another specific task . If this is the case , what all need to
   done ?

Regards,
Shyam

If you believe me then Debian is what you are looking at.
