Lost sound after upgrading to kernel 2.4.16

I have a SB PCI 128, I had everything setup and working fine under woody.  I used the essoniq es1370 module, and it worked fine.

I upgraded to kernel 2.4.16, afterwards I did a modconf it was still selected as a module, but when I log into KDE as myself I get no sound, and when I open the Sound Mixer is shows: invalid mixer "Esoniq ES1370"

I logout and log into root It works fine, I get sound.  So I check my group file and my user is apart of the right groups.  Which they should because the sound worked fine before the kernel upgrade.
