hello,
exactly the same behaviour here!
the difference being it barks at drivers/char/char.o (not drivers/net.o, like 
in your case)
woody installed today, kernel 2.2.19, I was compiling kernel 2.4.16 (debian 
source)
the source was just unarhived...

anybody on this?
