audio jukebox frontend
Hello,
I'm trying to build a jukebox, and, well... There seem to be
millions of mp3-projects out there, quite a lot of them very old,
maybe no longer supported, and the more interesting they
look the less information is available. I spent weeks looking for
"the right thing", but am still clueless.
Instead of mailing all of them, I think I may give a description
of what I want to end up with right here. If someone knows a
project that's similar enough to mine to be easily adapted,
please let me know.
The piece is meant to be a drop-in replacement for the CD-
player in a cafe. This means it needs to look and behave like a
standard CD-player in most aspects.
Of course, it should play audio CDs.
In addition, it has a harddisk that's meant to store a lot of CDs
as mp3-files. One should be able to browse the available
records, and pick one to play -- much like inserting another
CD.
Finally, it should be possible to extract the tracks and CDDB
data of an inserted CD while playing mp3s. Actual
compression may be done by another machine, but the
extraction must take place on the audio-box.
Shuffle/random play will be hardly ever used, playlists
definitely won't be needed (as magaing them would be quite
cumbersome).
The hardware is readily assembled right here, and I'm able to
do all this (except the "browsing" part) -- however, I'm quite at
a loss now because I don't know how to shrink it to about ten
buttons and a 20x4 display.
cu,
Schnobs
