using mkinitrd

I've compiled a custom kernel using kpkg, but I'm
unsure how to make an initrd like the official
kernels. I configured a 2.4.16 kernel with support for
cramfs and initrd. I tried using mkinitrd by invoking:

mkinitrd /lib/modules/2.4.16

and it output lots of junk to the xterm I was in. So,
before actually making a mistake that might be
difficult to undo, is the correct syntax for mkinitrd:

mkinitrd -o /boot/initrd-2.4.16 /lib/modules/2.4.16

Do I need to use anything other than mkinitrd?

Richard
