M-x display-time.  You _are_ running everything in Emacs, right?  8^)

Seriously, I seem to recall a few programs that would stuff it in the
terminals status line or something, where it wouldn't be overwritten
by other applications, but don't really remember what any of them
were.  This was all seven or so ago anyway, when more terminals
were around.

Unless you want a clock that will just take over the terminal?
