Off-Topic -- Strange files

I've seen mention of something similar before and I believe it's related
to ext3, but I'll ask to be sure...

In my / dir, I've got these files:

-rw-------    1 root     root            0 Nov  3 17:02 errs7NW6Z9
-rw-------    1 root     root            0 Nov  3 17:04 errsdZrjcJ
-rw-------    1 root     root            0 Nov  3 17:01 errsiC9TId
-rw-------    1 root     root            0 Nov  3 12:55 errssdVYeJ
-rw-------    1 root     root            0 Nov  3 11:17 errstPArtw

What are they ?? Being zero length, those are *usually* safe to delete,
right ??
